Descripción
Silicon dioxide is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula SiO2. Pure natural silicon dioxide crystals are hard, brittle, insoluble, colorless and transparent solids.
Moreover, Silicon dioxide has a wide range of uses, mainly used in making glass, water glass, pottery, enamel, aerogel felt, ferrosilicon, molding sand, elemental silicon, cement, etc. It is also a raw material for manufacturing optical fibers, important components of the electronics industry, optical instruments, handicrafts and refractory materials. On the other hand, It is an excellent flow promoter, mainly used as a lubricant, anti-adhesive agent and flow aid. Silicon dioxideis particularly suitable for the granulation of oil and extract drugs, and the granules produced have good fluidity and compressibility. What’s more, in the manufacture of granules, silicon dioxide can use for internal desiccant to enhance the stability of the drug. It can use forfilter aid, clarifier, defoamer, and suspending agent and thickener for liquid preparations.
The uses and functions of silica are as follows:
1. Manufacturing optical fiber: Silicon dioxide is an important raw material for manufacturing optical fiber.
2. Manufacturing quartz glass: Generally, purer quartz can be used to manufacture quartz glass. Quartz glass has a very small expansion coefficient, equivalent to 1/18 of ordinary glass. Silicon dioxide can withstand drastic changes in temperature and has good acid resistance (except HF). Therefore, quartz glass is often used to manufacture high-temperature resistant chemical instruments.
3. Manufacturing glass: Also, Silicon dioxide is often use for glass raw material and building material.
4. Manufacturing matting agent: The matting effect of Silicon dioxide is relatively strong, and high concentrations may cause increased viscosity. There is a tendency to precipitate during storage, especially untreated silica. So, to avoid accumulation, we can use paraffin or pyrolytic silica. The matting agent can adjust the matting degree at 45°, 60° and 85°. Paints with added silica matting agent can be overcoated. All of these are “stir-in” products.
5. Manufacture of important parts of the electronics industry: Crystals that are relatively rare in nature can use formanufacture important parts of the electronics industry, optical instruments and crafts.
6. Manufacture of refractory materials: Silicon dioxide is the raw material for manufacturing glass, quartz glass, water glass, optical fiber, important parts of the electronics industry, optical instruments, crafts and refractory materials, and is an important material for scientific research.
7. Manufacture of other products: Uses of it: flat glass, glass products, casting sand, glass fiber, ceramic glaze, sandblasting for rust prevention, sand for filtration, flux, refractory materials and manufacture of lightweight bubble concrete (Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete).
