وصف
Ni(OH)2 Nickel hydroxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ni(OH)2. It is a green powder that is slightly soluble in water, but easily soluble in acid and ammonium hydroxide. Ni(OH)2 can also be dissolve in aqueous solutions of ammonia and ammonium salts to form complexes. It is insoluble in alkalis. Its density is about 4.10 g/cm2 and its melting point is 230℃. It will decompose when heat to a certain temperature to form nickel oxide (NiO) and water (H20).
Chemical properties:
Reducibility: Ni(OH)2 Nickel hydroxide is a reducing hydroxide that can react with certain strong oxidants to form NiO(OH).
Alkalinity: It has medium-strong reducibility and can ionize hydroxide ions (OH) and a small amount of [Ni(OH)6]4- anions in saturat aqueous solutions.
Reactivity: Under certain conditions, such as heating or contact with strong oxidants, nickel hydroxide can undergo chemical reactions to form other nickel compounds.
Preparation methods:
There are various methods for preparing nickel hydroxide, including electrolytic preparation, wet chemical preparation, ethanol distillation, hydrogen sintering, azeotropic method and complex reaction method. Among them, electrolytic preparation is the main industrial production method. And nickel hydroxide is prepare by electrolyzing a solution containing nickel ions.
Uses of Nickel Hydroxide:
Battery materials: Ni(OH)2 is an important positive electrode material for alkaline batteries. Such as nickel-metal hydride batteries. It is widely used because of its large specific surface area. high electrochemical activity and relatively low price. Nickel-metal hydride batteries are widely use in electric vehicles. Energy storage systems, handheld devices and other fields.
Chemical catalysts: Nickel hydroxide can be use as a catalyst to participate in catalytic processes such as hydrogen oxidation reactions and oxidation reactions, such as synthesizing organic compounds and catalyzing the hydrogenation of organic matter.
Other fields: Due to its large specific surface area and good conductivity, nickel hydroxide can also be use in sensors, energy storage materials and other fields.
In addition, it can also be use in industrial processes such as the preparation of nickel salts and nickel plating.
